Why Japanese Pikachu Cards Are So Valuable
Unlike many English releases, Japanese Pikachu cards were often distributed through magazines, airline campaigns, train stamp rallies, hobby fairs, tournaments, or limited promotional events. Many were printed in relatively small quantities and were difficult to preserve in Gem Mint condition.
Because Pikachu remains Pokémon’s mascot, collector demand has continued to grow worldwide, especially for rare Japanese-exclusive promotional cards.

Distributed at the 1998 World Hobby Fair as part of a special expansion sheet, this glossy promotional Pikachu has become increasingly popular among collectors of Japanese event-exclusive cards. Unpeeled sheets containing Pikachu, Mew, and Mewtwo are especially sought after.

This version was included in the Quick Starter Gift and features the classic Japanese Old Back design. While not exceptionally rare in raw condition, PSA 10 examples remain difficult to obtain.
The artwork is the same as the Vending Machine version, but this one has a non-glossy finish, making it easy to tell the two apart.
